The short answer

Tipping ('propina') is expected in restaurants and for service staff. Tip in pesos, in cash, where you can.

What to tip, service by service

Restaurants
10–15% at restaurants; check it isn't already added.
Bars & cafés
10% or round up.
Taxis & rideshare
Not expected for street taxis; round up for apps.
Hotels
20–50 pesos per night housekeeping; 20–50 pesos per bag.
Tour guides & drivers
10–15% for guides and drivers.
Good to know

Tip in pesos, in cash, where you can. Customs shift over time and by venue, and tourist areas often expect more than locals give. When in doubt, a small tip in the local currency and cash is rarely wrong.
