Newark is New York's other international gateway and often the cheaper one. The rebuilt Terminal A is bright and well-run; Terminal C is United's fortress with airside connections and the Polaris lounge; Terminal B is the international catch-all and feels older. AirTrain links the terminals and the NJ Transit station, and Manhattan is 30 minutes by rail.

Poor to fair. No airside pods; seating is armrested and Terminal C stays busy until the last bank. The Marriott sits on airport grounds with a shuttle; several hotels on Route 1&9 run frequent shuttles.

Is Newark better than JFK for Manhattan?
For hotels on the west side or in New Jersey, yes — NJ Transit reaches Penn Station in about 30 minutes. For the east side, Brooklyn or Queens, JFK is usually easier.
Can I connect airside at Newark?
Only within Terminal C on United. Any other terminal change means the AirTrain and a new security screening; allow two hours.
